When Saul saw the vast Philistine army, he became frantic with fear. 1 Samuel 28:5
Have you been so afraid of the future that you read horoscopes everyday to find out what the day will bring? Have you gone to see a fortune teller to tell you what they think will happen in your life? Have you had someone read your palm or tarot cards?
King Saul was very scared of the Philistine army, he was afraid of losing his throne. He asked God to tell him either through a prophet or a dream what would happen. When he heard no reply, he became desperate. The prophet Samuel had passed away and was no longer around him for counsel so king Saul felt insecure and fearful. He had forgotten who had made him king in the first place. He instantly asked for a medium, and they informed him that there was one in Endor. He knew it was not right for him to go see a spiritist, but he felt desperate, so he disguised himself and went at night.
David, was persecuted and threatened by King Saul. He was also afraid of his life and his future. He had no idea what tomorrow would bring. But it never crossed his mind to go to a spiritist or a medium, he knew that the only one that knows the future, the only one he could trust and believe in, was God. God had promised him he would be the next king and even though he had no idea when that would be, his complete trust was in Him. Sure he had uncertainties and fears about his future, but he never forgot the power of God that helped him fight the giant Goliath and the One who never left his side.
We all have fears about tomorrow. Nobody knows what the future holds. When you put your trust in humans, fortune tellers or spiritists, they can try to convince you of what could happen in your future and they might even make you believe in something that would have never happened if you had never heard it. They end up filling you with more fears and uncertainties. They give you no hope.
God tells us that it might not always be easy, we will have fears, doubts and uncertainties about the future, but one thing we can be sure of is that He will never leave us. He will give us the courage, the strength and the audacity to face any situation that may come our way. Just like God was with David until his death, and found him to be a man after His own heart, God is with us and we have the hope that our fear of the future will end when He returns to take us home. You don’t have to be afraid of what the future holds as long as you know the One who holds the future.
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. Isaiah 41:10
Prayer: Thank you Father for never leaving my side, even though at times I might think You are not near. Help me to trust completely in You and not in fortune tellers or horoscopes, my future is in Your hands. I know with Your help I can overcome anything that comes my way. I want to be a man/woman after Your own heart! Amen.
