“Do you still not understand? Don’t you remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered? Matthew 16:9
Do you at times forget how powerful God is? Have you seen Him do great things in your life and then fail to remember them when things get tough? Do you comprehend how God can hang the earth on nothing? Do you get how extraordinary and magnificent God is?
The Israelites had seen many plagues fall upon Egypt and none touch their lives. They saw the Red sea part so they could walk through it. God sent manna from heaven to feed them. Water came out of a rock to quench their thirst. But they were selfish, always complaining, and even worshipped an idol that looked like a cow. They still didn’t get it.
Elijah had seen the power of God. He saw fire fall down from heaven and consume the alter covered with water. He knew who was the All-Powerful. But when Jezebel threatened to kill him, fear overcame him, he was afraid of losing his life, so he ran. He forgot who had greater power. He forgot who could protect his life from Jezebel. He still didn’t get it.
The disciples had seen Jesus perform many miracles. They saw him multiply loaves of bread and fish twice, and have many baskets of food leftover. But one day, when they went across the lake, they forgot to bring bread and had forgotten the miraculous power of God to create something out of nothing. They still didn’t get it.
How about you? Do you get it? What has God done in your life that confirms that the most powerful being in the universe is on your side and watches over you? He can part the red sea, send manna from heaven, protect your life from people like Jezebel, and provide for you and your family. Never forget you can count on Him.
Prayer: Lord, you are greater and more powerful than my mind can conceive. At times I forget all the miraculous things You have done. Help me to get it; to remember how You have come through in the past and continue to do so for me today! Amen
